the Causethe Cause

Earth Day Canada (EDC), a national environmental charity founded in 1990, provides Canadians with the practical knowledge and tools they need to lessen their impact on the environment.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of EDC and 40th anniversary of Earth Day—a day that put the environmental movement on the map. In 1990, two million Canadians joined 200 million people in 141 countries to celebrate the first International Earth Day. Today, more than six million Canadians and virtually every school aged child in Canada join a billion people in over 170 countries in staging Earth Day events and projects to address local environmental issues.

In 2008, EDC was chosen as Canada’s “Outstanding Non-profit Organization” for its innovative year-round programs and educational resources, by the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication. The success of EDC programs lies in the fact that they teach Canadians about simple, easy to accomplish, age-appropriate actions that any person can do. Visit Earth Day Canada to join a growing movement to support of a healthier environment.
