It's a Fact

Nicholas, at ten years old, feels that if we all do our part we will have an impact. "I want to get people talking about our environment and then get them to act. We all have the power to change and help our future, it is inside all of us."

At the age of eight when most kids are busy climbing trees Nicholas Horyski - Cerros was busy buying trees. He saved his allowance to purchase two trees and donated them to the city of Winnipeg. Nicholas felt the city needed more trees. Nicholas hoped his actions would raise awareness and get people to act in a more responsible way.

Shortly after, Nicholas met with the Premier of Manitoba and challenged him to do more for the green spaces and make parks more accessible for everyone. He was inspired to take the challenge and entered the WINNIPEG IN BLOOM contest. He took first place for his gardens in containers made from reused items.

This year Nicholas met with the Premier of Manitoba and the Minister of Conservation to discuss the government's role in conservation and preservation. He also held a successful Celebrity Silent Auction during Earth Week and donated the proceeds to Earth Day Canada.

His goal in all of this? "I want to get people talking about our environment and then get them to act," he says. Although Nicholas is only ten years old he feels that if we all do our part we will have an impact. "We all have the power to change and help our future, it is inside all of us."
