Ann Jarnet has been a stalwart in the realm of environmental education for many years. She is a champion of the profession and a true innovator, always willing to share her ideas and expertise. Ann's reputation speaks volumes both locally as well as nationally - an example of the latter is her success in ensuring that Francophone educators are represented well in Canadian environmental education (EE).
Ann enjoyed a fruitful career with Environment Canada, and was a driving force behind the National Consultation on Environmental Education and Sustainability, which was an undertaking to conceive of Canada's direction in EE. After galvanizing support and interest among the EE community, for their knowledge and input, Ann eventually developed the National Framework for Environmental Learning and Sustainability in Canada. That Framework was part of Canada's presentation at the World Summit in Johannesburg in 2002.
Aside from these larger scope endeavours, Ann has displayed her enthusiasm for the environment in countless small but influential ways. One perfect instance is related by one of Ann's colleagues, who was amazed when "she called to say that she was taking the writing of two young students to a United Nations meeting in New York and the students words were quoted by then Minister of the Environment." She goes on to say that "this simple act not only helped those students to realize that their thoughts and words could make a difference in the world but she inspired our whole community to continue its goal to fully integrate environmental attitudes into community living."
