Twenty years of meaningful environmental work characterizes the achievements of Robert Briehl.
As a teacher at E.J. James Public School, Robert has worked with students to encourage responsible citizenship and active stewardship through several outstanding environmental projects. The projects have involved habitat restoration as well as the establishment of spawning grounds in local watersheds, and most recently a remembrance garden in celebration of the school’s 50th anniversary.
Robert has a special focus in outdoor education. His major garden project builds on a reforestation project planted 20 years ago by his former students, and encourages his current students to decide on new vegetation, soils and aesthetics. To ensure that E.J. James continues to celebrate and engage in local stewardship, he has introduced a “teach your partner program” to the school.
Robert has also participated in Enviro-workshops across the Halton region and throughout the Halton District School Board, which speaks to his positive contributions for a local environmental ethic.
Robert’s commitment to environmental issues goes well beyond his work as a teacher. He has worked with TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment as a Director, the EcoKids Teacher Advisory Committee, as an Earth Day Coordinator, and with Pitch In and E-Zone to name just a few!
He continues to be an inspiration and leader for each new generation of students growing up in his community
