DreamRider Theatre
It’s a Fact

DreamRider engages audiences and children around environmental action and education with every stage production.

DreamRider Theatre is Greater Vancouver’s environmental education theatre company. For over 10 years, DreamRider has strived to build a generation of ecologically responsible citizens through the excitement of live theatre and multi-media.

In 2008, DreamRider created the musical play Keep Cool!, their fourth production on environmental education for elementary school audiences. To date, DreamRider has presented Keep Cool! to over 28 000 children.

The play teaches kids about what they can do to reduce their consumption of energy and natural resources, and the simple actions they can take to offset climate change. Audiences have committed to reducing their carbon footprint by more than 10 500 tonnes. With 81 successful performances of Keep Cool! under their belt, and booked well into 2011, audiences will continue to have a tremendous impact at the community level in support of a healthier environment.

The success of DreamRider is that they involve the audience in the performance. Kids verbally commit to environmental action, sing along and help characters solve environmental problems addressed on stage. “I was impressed at how many ‘take home messages’ were made student-friendly and accessible,” said Tamara Schulman of the District of West Vancouver.

Other DreamRider productions include

  • The A to Z of H2O—teaching children about the water cycle and ways to conserve water (now in its 12th year)
  • ReThink—children learn about reducing, reusing, recycling and composting (now in its 11th year)
  • Clean Up Your Act—an interactive play with children about environmental impact and the every day choices we make (now in its 11th year).

Over 500 000 Greater Vancouver children have enjoyed their plays to date and almost every municipality in the region has sponsored a DreamRider performance as part of their environmental education and outreach program, proving DreamRider is a major force for change.
