Earthroots
It’s a Fact

Earthroots pressures decision makers to protect wildlife and ecologically significant land throughout Ontario.

Earthroots, has been rallying support for wilderness preservation for over twenty years. They utilize grassroots campaigns, and research and education initiatives to protect the natural landscape across the province of Ontario.

Working in collaboration with other conservation organizations, Earthroots uses a variety of techniques to raise awareness on wilderness protection, such as public education, advocacy, primary and secondary research, media awareness and peaceful activism.

Earthroots’ current campaigns focus on

  • Temagami / Ancient Red and White Pine Ecosystems
  • Northern Forests
  • Parks and Protected Areas
  • Southern Ontario Greenspaces
  • Wildlife - Wolves, Woodland Caribou, Double-crested Cormorants

A major success for Earthroots was opposing the development of an 18-hole golf course and residential community on protected land in the area of Westhill. Environmental demands of this development would have exacerbated the numerous ecological and hydrological features of the site. Earthroots acted as a friend to the court to discuss the significance of this development in ongoing Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearings and partnered with EcoJustice to create a report entitled ‘Ontario’s Water Hazard: The Cumulative Impact of Golf Courses on Our Water Resources. This report will ensure full scale examination of the effectiveness of provincial policies that aim to protect wetlands and water resources.
