Hometown Heroes: Recognizing Environmental Achievement
Suzanne Marie Benoit—2010 Hometown Hero Finalist
Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta
Suzanne Marie Benoit
It’s a Fact

Suzanne is a veteran when it comes to protecting the natural environment and continues to help preserve the local landscape in Fort Saskatchewan.

Suzanne has served as a volunteer and president of the Fort Saskatchewan Naturalist Society, working to protect natural areas in the community and neighbouring regions.

Suzanne’s most significant environmental accomplishment was preserving a remnant prairie in the community, not only working to protect the area, but restore it. To do so, Suzanne organized community projects, including garbage pickups, installing informational signage and fencing to protect the area, planting native species and helping to document the species in the area.

Suzanne is also involved with countless other environmental initiatives in her community and is taking simple actions to do her part to protect the local environment. Suzanne participates in cleanups, tree planting events and takes the time to educate her neighbours at the senior’s complex about the importance of recycling. She has also joined the Edmonton Naturalization Group and has encouraged the introduction of native species in the City of Edmonton’s landscaping initiatives.
