EcoKids Program Coordinator

Summary:

EcoKids is an environmental action program that provides curriculum-linked materials and resources to educators and inspires young Canadians from ages 7 to 12 with topical environmental information, interactive games and hands-on activities. At the heart of our program is our multi-award-winning EcoKids web site (ecokids.ca), which is an interactive environmental web site for children, their families, and educators in Canada and around the world.

The EcoKids Program Coordinator works closely with the Program Manager to develop environmental education resources, represent the program to participants, and communicate to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with research, writing, design and production of EcoKids material (print and electronic)
  • Coordinate fulfillment and distribution of EcoKids print materials
  • Create and distribute bi-monthly email newsletters
  • Coordinate with communications department to distribute media releases and alerts for various program events and initiatives
  • Represent EcoKids by leading workshops and presentations at educational conferences and events  
  • Coordinate EcoKids presence at Earth Day events  
  • Provide program participants with ongoing program support via phone and email  
  • Fulfill public requests for information and assistance in a timely manner
  • Assist in the annual evaluation of the program
  • Assist with maintaining and updating all material on the EcoKids website  
  • Coordinate all events relating to the annual EcoKids Earth Day campaign
  • Manage registration processes for all related events
  • Assist with program development including expanding markets for EcoKids

Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a teaching degree
  • Degree in Environmental Studies, Education or a related discipline
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are fluent in both English and French
  • Solid communications background with an interest in the environment and education
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in education and/or environment or a related field preferred
  • Experience in environmental education preferred
  • Experience with and knowledge of one or more provincial elementary school curriculum
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Demonstrated creativity and initiative
  • Ability to determine priorities, adhere to deadlines, and multi-task
  • Excellent time-management skills and detail oriented
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to excel in a fast paced environment

EcoKids Program Manager

Position Summary

The EcoKids Program Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of environmental education resources and website elements for educators and school-aged children across Canada. The EcoKids Program Manager builds partnerships with school boards, education networks, schools and educators in an ongoing effort to enhance program resources and delivery and build public awareness. S/he also works closely with and manages the EcoKids Program Coordinator. Other responsibilities include: promotion of EcoKids to new audiences, stakeholder reporting, hiring and supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers, and assisting with special events.

This is a one-year contract position from January-December 2015, with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Program development, management, evaluation and reporting
  • Program fundraising in co-ordination with the Development Committee
  • Management of research, writing, editing, production and fulfillment of all EcoKids environmental education resources (print and electronic)
  • Building and maintaining partnerships
  • Stakeholder relations, communications and reporting
  • Management of the EcoKids web site – research and write content, oversee design
  • Program and staff evaluation in co-ordination with the President and/or Vice President
  • Supervision of Program Coordinator, contractors, seasonal staff, and student interns

Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in both French and English.
  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Education, preferably along with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies/Science, Geography, Earth/Life Science, or related discipline
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience developing children’s environmental educational resources, materials, and programs
  • Well-developed research, writing and program management and evaluation skills
  • Proven experience managing web sites & web production (e.g. Wordpress)
  • Practical knowledge of community-based social marketing techniques
  • Experience managing production, both print and electronic
  • Managerial or supervisory experience
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Creative, strategic thinker
  • Proficient in: MS Office Suite

Fundraising Consultant

Position Summary

The Fundraising Consultant will support the fundraising goals of Earth Day Canada (EDC), in collaboration with EDC’s Development Committee. S/he is expected to manage, execute and follow up--with result-driven actions--all activities related to Earth Day Canada’s fundraising goals, in a timely and cost-effective manner. This is a 4 month, full-time contract position from January 5 to April 30, 2015. There is the possibility of extension depending on the success of the contract.

Reporting

This position will report directly to the President.

Role and responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Work with the Development Committee to identify funding priorities and key targets.
  • Determine feasibility of targets as per priorities and process for application (e.g. determine if a consultation with the funder in advance is necessary or advisable).
  • Develop an outline for funding proposals to be reviewed with appropriate staff (including targets for letters of support).
  • Draft initial applications and letters of support. Secure appropriate contact information.
  • Review with appropriate staff, finalize and submit proposals.
  • Develop crowdfunding and donor strategies and materials for specific programs.

Donor and Sponsor Relations

  • Develop a system for tracking funders and donors, reporting requirements, disbursement schedules, communication protocols etc. Set up a protocol to ensure that funding, sponsorship, program and financial reports are sent to project and program-related sponsors in a timely and regular manner.

Management

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions with potential donors and sponsors (e.g. a database of solicited funds, communications and follow-up actions needed)
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions with existing donors and sponsors (reports due and renewal due dates etc.)
  • Keep clear track of planned and anticipated income for regular management reports.
  • Manage all archive and institutional history of fundraising-related activities and contacts.

Support

  • Provide counsel to the Development Committee on best means and opportunities for funding requests.
  • Liaise, coordinate and collaborate with the communications team in the creation and development of outreach materials for donor solicitation, acknowledgement and cultivation.
  • Produce briefing materials and talking points for the President and/or Development Committee as required.

Minimum qualifications

  • Eight to ten years of fundraising experience (ideally spanning the private sector, foundations, individual donors, and crowdfunding).
  • Public relations, communications or relevant field experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and manage work under tight deadlines and on several files simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to attend to details.
  • Initiative and ability to start from scratch and to quickly grasp the range of Earth Day Canada activities, programs and needs.
  • Commitment to good governance, integrity and transparency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in communicating persuasively and effectively with a variety of audiences and stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to find creative solutions to problems and negotiate with and influence others.
