Early Bird Raffle Winner

We are thrilled to congratulate Rachel Wentzell as the winner of our Early Bird Raffle. Rachel, a student from Ecole Grosvenor-Wentworth Park School in Halifax, NS won a Panasonic 60GB HDD/SD Camcorder, courtesy of the Aeroplan Beyond Miles program, for submitting her film, ‘The Bright, The Bad and The Ugly’,-before February 15, 2010. Great work!

Vote for your favourite film

All filmmakers, young and old, established and aspiring, are invited to submit 90-second silent videos to the Every Day Heroes Film Competition.

Enthusiastic. Remarkable. Inspiring. These are just a few words that describe the individuals and groups across Canada that are doing amazing things to reduce their impact on the environment in large and small ways. They’ve taken the three R’s and made it a way of life. They’re every day heroes whose stories need to be told.

Finalists will have their videos screened in Ivanhoe Cambridge Shopping Malls across Canada, on the Onestop Network of 270 monitors on the subway platforms of the Toronto Transit Commission, as well as hosted on Earth Day Canada’s website and YouTube channel.

Prizes will be awarded in four categories:

Prizes will be awarded in four categories, including Best of ‘Under 18’ years of age, Best of ‘18 and Over’, Best of Competition and the People’s Choice Award. The Canadian public can also enter to win a $250 Ivanhoe Cambridge gift card by voting online for the People’s Choice Award.

Inspire Canada this Earth Day. Tell the story of your every day environmental hero and their dedication to support of a healthier environment through the power of film.

The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2010.


Sumbissions Judging Prizes

Eligibility and Technical Criteria:

Limit — 1 submission per filmmaker

Films must be

  • Canadian
  • 90 seconds (exactly!)
  • NTSC Standard (4:3) or Widescreen (16:9) format
  • 30 fps, deinterlaced if possible
  • Silent (no audio but subtitles can be used)
  • One of the Accepted Codecs: Windows Media 8 or 9, divx, xvid, Quicktime H.264 or Sorenson 3
  • Flash .swf files, accompanied by the working .fla file

The Every Day Heroes Film Competition will accept traditional motion picture, animation, stop-motion, claymation, etc. You choose how you want to present your every day hero.

Filmmaker’s name, optional secondary name, the title of the film and its category will appear beside the film at all times, so it’s unnecessary to include them in your 90 second film/video.

Submissions received by March 15, 2010 will be screened by EDC to ensure they meet competition eligibility and technical criteria. Eligible submissions will be shortlisted by EDC and Art for Commuters.

Shortlisted submissions will then be sent to members of the Every Day Heroes Film Competition Judging Panel. The panel consists of representatives from Art for Commuters, Earth Day Canada and guest judges with an association to the film industry.
