July 2008 EcoAction Teams

Dear Friends of EDC:

Jed Goldberg
Earth Day Canada President, Jed Goldberg.

For me, summer is a time of celebration. Whether celebrating the graduation of a student, the joy of being a father or taking part in National Aboriginal Day or Canada Day, there is nothing like a good celebration.

Earth Day Canada has had a lot to celebrate recently. Simon Jackson helped us honour Keleigh Annau as the 2008 Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program National Award Winner. The 5th Annual Earth Day Canada Gala was a smash success. Canada’s 2008 Hometown Hero, David Donnelly, received a special tribute from Canadian recording artist and fellow Hometown Heroes nominee Sarah Harmer. The list goes on...

I hope you can celebrate environmental action with Earth Day Canada this summer. If you need a place to start, check out the EcoAction Teams Program today!

The 5th Annual Earth Day Canada Gala was not only the green highlight of the calendar year, but the hippest fundraiser to hit Toronto’s Drake Hotel. The evening featured satirical whit from Emcee Mark McKinney, local culinary delights from world renowned chef Michael Stadtländer and Eigensinn Farm, and musical performances by the Sultans of String, Brent Titcomb and Jason Fowler, Liam Titcomb, and Sarah Harmer.

Clayton Ruby, a prominent member of the environmental and human rights community in Canada, received the Outstanding Commitment to the Environment Award. David Donnelly was also celebrated as the 2008 Hometown Heroes Award Winner--featured below.

In case you missed out, we have posted some fantastic photos. Thank you to everyone who made our 2008 Gala fundraiser such a wonderful success!
