1. General
When is Earth Day?
Earth Day is April 22nd every year, all around the world. Earth Day has grown so much that celebrations take place throughout the whole month of April, also known as Earth Month. Earth Day 2008 is Tuesday, April 22.
How many people celebrate Earth Day?
More than 6 million Canadians join 500 million people in over 180 countries in staging events and projects to address local environmental issues. Nearly every school child in Canada takes part in an Earth Day activity.
What is the history of Earth Day?
Wisconsin Governor Gaylord Nelson and Harvard University student Dennis Hayes celebrated the first Earth Day in 1970.
How many programs does Earth Day Canada have?
Earth Day Canada (EDC) has several year round programs for Canadians of all ages. Programs include EcoKids, ecoMentors, EcoAction Teams, and Toyota Earth Day Scholarship. See the home page for links to each of these programs.
What other initiatives does Earth Day Canada have?
For the month of April, EDC has a charity auction on eBay. Additional initiatives include: Earth Day Goes to Work, Earth Day Goes to School, the Hometown Hero Award, and the Earth Day Canada Gala.

Event organizers are people who plan and organize an Earth Day event in their area.
What is an accredited Earth Day Coordinator?
Our provincial and community-based volunteer accredited Earth Day (ED) Coordinators organize, administer and promote environmental projects and events for Earth Day/ Earth Month and throughout the year. They often act as public contacts during the year. Coordinators volunteer their time to provide resources to their community partners and they are the only ones who can use the Earth Day logo for promotional purposes.

How can I find out about Earth Day events in my community?

Events can be registered using our online event registration form.
I would like to distribute seedlings at my event, where can I find a supplier in my area?
Earth Day Canada recommends distributing packs of native wildflower seeds at your events, rather than seedlings. Contact your local nursery or garden centre to see if they are willing to donate the seeds.
Where can I get garbage bags and gloves for my community clean up event?
Contact your local hardware or building supply store and see if they will donate these items for your event. Another suggestion is to contact Pitch-In Canada.
