Earth Day Canada partners with City of Calgary

CALGARY (01/09/09) — The City of Calgary is encouraging citizens to take action to reduce their impact on the environment. To help citizens take action, the City is the latest municipality to partner with Earth Day Canada’s EcoAction Teams Program.

“The City of Calgary is pleased to partner with Earth Day Canada’s EcoAction Teams Program,” says Jeff Reading, EcoFootprint Project Team Lead, “People want to do the right thing – often times, they just don’t know how. This program identifies the simple actions they can take that will reduce their EcoFootprint.”

The EcoAction Teams Program helps people conserve energy and water, reduce waste and supports sustainable transportation and local food production. Through an interactive online experience, you learn how to reduce your footprint and calculate environmental and financial savings based on the actions you choose to commit to. The program complements the City of Calgary’s EcoFootprint Project, which measures your personal ecological footprint – the amount of land and water needed to sustain your lifestyle and dispose of the waste you produce.

Residents interested in participating in the EcoAction Teams Program can sign up individually or create a team with friends, family, co-workers or neighbours, and challenge everyone to lessen their impact.

“I applaud the City of Calgary for taking serious steps to help Calgarians reduce their environmental impact,” says Jed Goldberg, President of Earth Day Canada. “The EcoFootprint Project will help individuals and families understand the magnitude of their impact, while our EcoAction Teams Program will provide realistic actions that anyone can do in the home or on the go to help reduce their environmental impact.”
